Article abstract: Although ischemic Colitis is one of the most common ischemia in gastrointestinal tract; it is less known among general surgeons and emergency physicians. Ischemia could be occlusively due to emboli or thrombosis of the pertinent arteries or veins or merely a non occlusive event. The Ischemia can also progress into bowel necrosis which needs surgery and partial or total colectomy; or ischemia could be transient and only observation and medical treatment would be essential. When ischemic colitis is recurrent it could cause bowel stricture which may also need surgery. In this article we have a review of Ischemic colitis and its possible non surgical treatments.
