Article abstract:
Introduction & Objective: Since the prevalence of re-surgery after laminectomy is not accurately known, it is not possible to make a clear decision regarding laminectomy. Therefore, it becomes difficult to decide on surgery or using conservative treatments; According to the mentioned materials, it is necessary to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis in relation to this issue; The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the prevalence of reoperation after laminectomy as a systematic review and meta-analysis. Materials & Methods: The current study was a systematic review and meta-analysis based on the steps of the PRISMA statement with a comprehensive electronic search in MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, SID, and Iran Mag databases using key words. Laminectomy, surgery, spine, reoperation, long-term outcomes, long-term outcomes, and spine surgery were performed by reviewing cohort studies. The results were reported using a random effects model with a 95% confidence interval. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata V.14 statistical software. Results: 18703 patients were evaluated in ten articles. The results indicated that the prevalence of re-surgery is 14% (I2= 84.20%; 13-16%: CI95%). Prevalence investigation was also done based on the type of study; In studies with low risk of bias, the prevalence of re-surgery was 14% (12-15%: CI95%) and in studies with high risk of bias, the prevalence of re-surgery was 16% (8-25%: CI95%). Conclusions: There are several reasons that increase the need for re-surgery after laminectomy; But there is no accurate information regarding the exact prevalence of this case. In this study, which summarized several studies in the form of a meta-analysis, it was found that the prevalence of re-surgery after laminectomy is 14%; considering that different studies were included in this study, the results of this study should be used with caution.
