The Effect of Vitex on Somato-Vegetative Symptoms in Menopausal Women

Abstract
Introduction & Objective: In fact menopause for women is a global phenomenon and something between 74% and 80% of women with menopausal symptoms struggling up. The symptoms that women experience during this period such as sweating/flush, cardiac complaints, sleeping disorders, joint & muscle complaints and… Now the treatment used for this symptoms are hormone replacement that has the serious effects. One of the alternatives hormone therapy use plants from the family of phytoestrogens, such as the Vitex . Materials & Methods: This study was a double-blind clinical trial that was done on 100 postmenopausal women. Women participating in the study used tab of Vitex twice a day for one month. Menopausal Rating Scale (MRS) questionnaire was used to assess symptoms of menopause. At the end of a month the results using SPSS software and descriptive and analytical statistics (repeated measures test andt-test) were analyzed Results: The findings showed that the use of Vitex effective in decreasing hot flashes and sleep problems complaints compared with the placebo group (P < 0.001). Conclusions: These results suggest that the use of Vitex effective in reducing symptom in women, and can be used as a supplement or hormone replacement therapy used to improve symptoms of menopause in women.
