Shortly after the Islamic Revolution, the outbreak of the imposed war and the existence of countless war wounded, faced the country's surgeons with a difficult and extremely important task. The lack of familiarity of our surgeons with the treatment of war wounds, which is completely different from ordinary surgical medicine, also added to the existing problems. In the above circumstances, the existence of a scientific organization to help increase the knowledge of surgeons and familiarize them with the treatment of war wounds and also with the surgical advances in the world seemed absolutely necessary. On December 16, 1985, with the efforts of a few surgeons as the founding board, a general invitation was made to surgeons and seventy-four people participated in it and the first board of directors of the Iranian Society of Surgeons was elected according to the statute approved by the Ministry of Interior and the Iranian Society of Surgeons, consisting of all associations of different surgical fields, came into existence.
