All manuscripts submitted to the Iranian Journal of Surgery undergo an initial evaluation by the Editorial Board to ensure compliance with the journal’s aims, scope, and structural requirements. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are then sent for external peer review.
The Iranian Journal of Surgery employs a double-anonymized peer review process, meaning that both the reviewers and authors remain anonymous to each other throughout the review period. Reviewers are selected from among highly qualified and experienced experts in the relevant fields. The reviewers’ comments and revision requests are communicated to the corresponding author. Authors are expected to submit the revised version of their manuscript within 10 to 14 days for final assessment.
When deemed necessary by the Editorial Board, and with the authors’ consent, meetings may be held with one or two board members and a biostatistics expert to address methodological or analytical issues. The final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief.
If a manuscript is authored or co-authored by the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Editorial Board members, or any member of the journal’s staff, the review and evaluation process will be conducted independently by reviewers who are not affiliated with these individuals, to ensure full impartiality and adherence to the journal’s conflict of interest and ethical standards.
